Welcome to Bremerton

As the largest city on the Kitsap Peninsula, Bremerton offers an urban environment and is home to important navy institutions. With two ferries to downtown Seattle, Bremerton provides the best of the Kitsap Peninsula, with easy access to the mainland. The bustling port city is surrounded by water and is divided down its center by the Port Washington Narrows, with the eastern and western sides of the city connected by two bridges.

The city of Bremerton was planned in 1891 by German immigrant and entrepreneur William Bremer, who felt the future location of Bremerton was especially promising for its unique position within several different inlets. Around the same time, the U.S. Navy became interested in the area's potential as a port and shipyard and built the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and the Bremerton Annex of Naval Base Kitsap.

Today, walking along the shorelines surrounding Bremerton, it is not uncommon to witness eagles fishing or whales and dolphins playing. Picture-perfect views of the Olympic Mountains and Mount Rainier are a backdrop to art galleries, singular local dining, and evenings of live performances or local sporting events. Bremerton offers urban experiences surrounded by pristine nature.
