The charming city of Poulsbo is near the north of the base, and the urban amenities of Silverdale and Bremerton are near the south. Unlimited outdoor recreational opportunities are right in Bangor Trident Base’s backyard. Mt. Rainier and the Olympic National Park and Forest are accessible within a two-hour drive, providing ample opportunity for hiking, climbing, and camping. Boating, fishing, and any other number of watersports are also within easy reach from Bangor Trident Base.

Originally known as Naval Submarine Base Bangor, the base was established in 1942, serving as a shipping facility for ammunition until the 1970s, when it was converted into a submarine base. By 2004, Naval Submarine Base Bangor was combined with Naval Station Bremerton to create Naval Base Kitsap. Naval Base Kitsap is one of the three largest naval bases in the United States and is a conglomerate of military installations that includes Bangor Trident Base.
